Abandoned Mourning Dove Egg
Well this is a perfect place to pick up where we left last June with the Morning Doves. So I am out in the yard Wednesday and notice a egg on the pavers near the bird water dish. It could have only been there a few hours as I had been out and about earlier. The dove laid the egg in a very awkward spot and abandoned it. It is very hard and seems perfect without any flaws visible. So I pick it up with my garden shovel and put it in a nest we had left over from last year and hoped that any of the the 20 or so doves we have gets an urge to sit on it. I didn't think it was a good idea to leave it on the hot pavers which probably would fry it. I continue to turn it throughout the day. It's been a couple days and no takers. I have moved the nest around in hopes to draw interest but no luck. I read that there is no chance it will survive without a dove to sit on it so I guess I will just continue to turn it and hope for a miracle in about 12 days. Not holding my breath but stranger things have happened.
