Our Ruby-throated hummingbird (this is a female) started showing up for the season around middle to late April. He has been coming for several years now. It is a quick little thing who consistently and frequently circles around our yard all day long, maybe even as much as on the hour. If he hears you, he is gone though so it is quite challenging to photograph not to mention the tiny weeny size of him, and his speed. Generally, by the time I get the camera up and ready to focus he has moved a few times in the yard. Sometimes, he is so quick I never have a chance to click the take button on my camera, I'm still struggling with focus and a steady arm and he is gone. Very fustrating. Due to his small size in order to find him I have to zoom out, to take him, I need to zoom all the way in. Crazy. He's moved around to 3 different stations by that time. Well, today I got him while quietly stalking. This is 3 years in the making for this quality shot. He
re he is at our pink hibiscus tree. He loves this flower (the red too), our black and blue salvia, our firecracker bush, and our african lillies. I've also see him on our mexican petunias. Anything tubular he likes.
