All 3 chicks are still with us and growing. On 6/26/14 I found they moved ponds. Now they are in a new retention pond in the front of the property of the construction development called Windermere Sound. They had been in the back of the property where construction revised a natural pond (totally drained it and now only starting to refill), and made a second pond next to it. It is divided by pond vegetation, large weeping willow type things. The new retention pond was dry except with puddles, and nice tall grass and wild flowers. They hung in there until I discovered they were not there anymore and found them on the front pond near Overstreet. This pond is brand spanking new and could not have much to eat being only made about 3-4 months ago but there have been other birds around it too. I see cattle egrets, little blue heron, sandhill cranes. I even saw them with a killdeer today. He was in the grass just kind of resting.
Much to my surprise they were flying on 6/29/2014. The parents are still fiercely protective and flying is contained to just the little pond.
