Double Crested Cormorant - It's a great diver and a great fisher

So much so, it is blamed for declines in sport fisheries. and for devastating fish farms. Smaller fish are consumed beneath and bigger ones are brought to the surface where they are flipped and eaten head first. Often you will see other birds on land chasing them around the pond, and I think it is because they hope they drop the fish with the flip, or they hope to catch a stray they stir up.

The immature comorants are paler, brown color with orange bill, and surrounding the eye is orange too. They are often confused with the Anhinga, A distinguishing factor from the Anhinga is it bill has a little curve hook to it, while the Anghinga bill is straight. Anhinga's have orange feet and DCC's have black.
