female house finch

The smaller birds love this squirrel proof feeder. The cardinals are too big to use it so the finches and other smaller birds have their own place. If the cardinals are feeling nasty, they'll still chase them out.

House Finch

Male house finch is not limited to just one feeder. He uses them all (when the cardinals aren't looking). Isn't he just beautiful!

House Finch molting into breeding plumage at our feeder.

Sometimes one pic is not enough. This is a collage I put together of 3 images. This is a male and female. The male is the red one. He will feed her just like a male cardinal does during courtship. He'll feed her even though she's right there doing it herself. The colors during breeding season are beautiful.  This is breathtaking!

House Finch Couple

Our little house finch couple feeding together. I seem to see the male more than the female but finally here she is alone at the feeder so I can photograph her. She isn't as colorful as the male.

House Finch

Male finch. Often visits with his wife. She's all tanish/brown/hint of green. Today he comes alone. They are as cute as the cardinal couples I have visit but they two couples fight over the feeders and the cardinals always win. Verified as House Finch at whatbird.com
