Silver Spotted Skipper
I am not sure I have ever photographed one of these before. Unfortunately, I think it's life was ended right here in the garden. I was set to snap my fourth picture and he was gone. I took my eye away from the camera screen to see if I could catch him in my view and I saw a lizard in his vicinity scurry out of sight deep into the flower bed. I am afraid he got him. We have so many lizards and they are hungry. This particular bed is the Bermuda Triangle of the garden for sure. If a butterfly lands too long, they're toast. I'm glad I didn't really see it for sure, but, I know what happened. We lost our big fat black snake to a car recently. I saw it flattened in the road to the side of our house. This snake kept these guys in check. The poor butterflies. I wish they could read, because I would post a sign, Enter at Your Own Risk - Heavily Populated with Hungry Lizards!

Gulf Fritillary
Beautiful gulf fritillary feeding on the black and blue salvia in the garden today. Taken with my new Canon PowerShot SX40. I used auto settings and even though the subject is a little soft, I love it because I was standing a good 20 feet away.
