what's going on with the baby cardinals?

Update 6/1/2014 Papa and Mama continue the end of caring and feeding. That scene continue. No more feeding has been seen. They are chasing them out every time they catch them around. It seems they keep being pushed out and they find their way back to our backyard. The juves are doing great though. Total confidence they are ready to be on their own. Today, I have seen 3 juvenile cardinals together resting in the bushes and at the feeders. I also saw papa chasing another male cardinal all over the place and it went on it seemed forever. So maybe one of these babies below is the third from another couples brood and why the plumage looks different.

Update: 5/29/14. The cardinal family has separated. The babies have been pushed out to be on their own. The parents were by themselves today in the backyard. One baby snuck in at dinner time and ate forever at the feeder but the parents weren't around. It's done. The parents are done raising them.

The pics on the left were taken tonight at 7:30 pm. The pics on the right were taken yesterday morning at 8:30 am. Something weird is going on. Either we have two sets of baby cardinals, or the lighting, timing, or the end product of the digital images, and the birds physical status at different times of the day are playing games with my vision.

baby cardinals foraging on own

The baby cardinals are foraging on their own, eating out of the feeders and looking for protein in the yard. They are proficient in most of the feeder styles but are clumsy entering a couple of them. They are seen honing their flying skills darting around the backyard obstacles. They investigate everything just like a toddler putting things they shouldn't into their mouths. Feeding by the parents has reduced drastically. Papa has started getting irritated and snappy with at least one of them chasing him away from the feeders at times, and out of the yard. The babies are together during most of the day, but bicker occasionally. Mama is still around but not as much. Papa is around more. All signs that soon the babes will be pushed out of this territory. These shots were all taken yesterday.
